Gum Flower Fairies - A series

As a photographer, I have always believed that nature tells its own stories—we just have to slow down enough to listen. For as long as I can remember, the dense canopy of the eucalyptus forest has been tied to fond memories of childhood, of curling up to read the timeless tales of May Gibbs. Her legendary characters, the Bush Babies, taught generations of Australians to look at our native flora with a sense of wonder. The Gum Flower Fairies collection is my personal, heartfelt love letter to that enduring magic.

This series centers around the stunning pink flowering gum. There is something so beautifully poetic about these blossoms; they are resilient enough to thrive in the harsh Australian climate, yet their intricate pink filaments and golden, pollen-tipped stamens are incredibly delicate.

When I brought these blooms into the studio, I wanted to capture that exact duality. By using a macro lens, I was able to peek beneath the leaves and isolate the bursting, majestic geometry of each flower. To me, these close-ups don't just show a plant—they reveal the shy, whimsical spirits of May Gibbs' "Blossom Babies" hiding just out of sight.
